When you think of snowboarding, places like Colorado, California, and Vermont come to mind. Chicago doesn’t usually make that list, yet with 2.6 million people, there are thousands that ride locally (yes, locally!) and travel to get their fix.
The Midwest offers dozens of resorts within hours. Though smaller in size and vertical compared to most mountains, local resorts specialize in offering great park features. Just a 6 hour drive north brings a dedicated rider to the Upper Peninsula for the best Midwest riding, where powder tracks are a given on almost any day of the season.
Chicago is abundant with diverse culture. Whether your taste is music, food, theatre, nightlife, or shopping, one could spend years here and never see everything this great city has to offer. Summertime rivals the park riding of winter, with neighborhood street festivals every weekend, not mention the miles of beaches lining the city. If you’re a sports fan, this is one of the best cities to take in the action.
Located just west of the Magnificent Mile, known for its world class shopping, lies the Burton Flagship Store. The traditional Chicago 4 story townhouse snowboarding haven showcases all of Burton’s great brands. Make sure to take in your history lesson as you walk the spirit core filled with historic boards from Burton’s past. Burton is a dynamic organization that offers an excellent benefits package. Enrollment dates for each of the benefits vary; please contact Human Resources for specific dates.
CIGNA administers the health insurance program for Burton employees. There are three plans offered: a PPO (Preferred Provider Network), an EPP (Exclusive Provider Program, similar to an HMO) and HRA (Health Reimbursement Arrangement). The PPO provides the flexibility to go in or out of network, with a financial incentive offered to stay in-network. When staying in the network, a doctor’s visit costs $10 / $20 (preventative/specialist) and all other services are provided after a $200 deductible ($400 family). The EPP Program offers comprehensive health services at $10/$20 (preventative/specialist) a visit. The HRA option is a network plan built on the PPO platform. It combines a high deductible ($2,000 individual/$4,000 family) plan with an account ($1,000 individual/$2,000 family funded by Burton) that will help cover a percentage of the deductible. You decide how to use the dollars in your fund. And the dollars remaining in your fund may roll over for you to use in future years. All preventative care is covered at 100%. This plan will cost you significantly less per paycheck. All three plans include a prescription drug coverage with a 3-Tier plan at participating pharmacies.
Dental ranges from 50% to 100% reimbursement depending on the procedure. Dental deductible is $25 individual and $75 family. Plan maximum is $2,000 per person per year.
Eye care Benefit:
All eligible employees can sign up for vision coverage offered through VSP. The VSP coverage allows for $10 eye exams at participating providers. Glasses or contacts are covered every 12 months.
Burton 401(k) Incentive Savings Plan:
Burton encourages employees to save for their retirement; all eligible employees may participate in the Burton 401(k) incentive Savings plan. The 401(K) Retirement is made of 401(K) and discretionary company match.
Domestic Partner Benefit Coverage:
Burton offers Domestic Partner coverage to employees who have been in a committed relationship for at least one year. This benefit allows employees to purchase health insurances for their partner as well as some other benefits.
125 Flexible Spending/Premium Plan:
As allowed by the Internal Revenue code, employees may elect to have their medical premium contributions taken out on a pretax basis. This will reduce the amounts being withheld by Federal, State and Social Security taxes. Employees may also elect to set money aside on a pretax basis to pay for foreseeable medical and/or dependent care expenses.
This benefit allows parents who are eligible and who participate in the Dependent Care Reimbursement Plan (DCRA) to receive a 100% match contribution by Burton (IRS dollar limits still apply). If you choose the maximum IRS limit as your annual goal amount ($5,000); you will set aside $2,500 a year (tax free) in the DCRA and Burton will match you $2,500 a year (tax free) in the DCRA.
Short Term Disability:
Employees meeting eligibility requirements are covered under Burton’s short-term disability policy. On the 8th day of absence due to a non-work related illness or 1st day of absence due to a non-work related accident or injury, employees may receive 60% (up to $1,000) of their weekly pay for a maximum period of 26 weeks.
Long Term Disability:
Employees meeting eligibility requirements are covered under Burton’s long-term disability policy. On the 26th week of absence due to non-work related illness or injury, employees may receive 60% of their monthly pay up to $5,000 a month.
Employees have a two times base salary life insurance benefit with the premium paid in full by Burton.
Accidental Death and Dismemberment:
Employees have a two times base salary AD&D insurance benefit with the premium paid in full by Burton.
Burton encourages employees to participate in good health and fitness habits. We will reimburse eligible employees for half of their monthly health club membership fees through payroll up to $30 per month.
Employee Assistance Program:
All employees are eligible for confidential counseling services through the Employee Assistance Program. Employees and their family members can receive up to three free visits per occurrence. An EAP can help with marital problems, substance abuse problems, personal, or work related stresses. Legal consultation services are also available through the EAP.
Paid Time Off (PTO):
All eligible employees (hourly and salaried) will accrue a certain number of days per year based on length of service (see schedule below). Sick and vacation time will be combined into one PTO bucket for all employees. Time will accrue at the beginning of each month. There is a maximum of 2 weeks carryover.

All active employees are entitled to substantial discounts should they choose to purchase Burton products. The employee discount is 50% to 60% for Burton products. Employees must be in the particular physical location for the discount to apply.
All active employees are eligible for a discounted season pass to a local mountain. This will give you lots of opportunity to ride.
All full time employees are eligible to purchase industry rate lift tickets to local area mountains.
